2018 Men of Curling Fundraising Calendar
Featuring our very own ‘cover-guy’ Marc Kennedy!
This annual fundraising campaign raises funds for a number of Charitable Benefactors each year. The last Men of Curling calendar in 2014 raised over $120,000! Rumour has it that Marc may be hanging out around the club to sell this year’s calendar ‘in person’ – so you may be lucky enough to get an autographed copy!
Calendars are $20 incl gst and may also be purchased in the office. Cash only, please.
Marc’s exclusive sales will benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation & Simply Supper Helps.

St. Albert Curling Club, together with St. Albert Catholic High School and Paul Kane High School are hosting the Alberta High School Curling Provincial Championships this week!   (March 1-3, 2018)
Competition opens with draws at 7:45am Thursday morning and runs through Saturday afternoon. St. Albert Curling Club is well represented by many of our Junior curlers participating on the local curling teams. Spectators are welcome! Admission is $2/day $5/3 days.

Master’s Provincial Championships in Stettler Feb 21-25, 2018  –  Gary Greening Team with Dale Briske, Rick Dallyn, Doug DeBruijn and Grant Cook (5th) & Neil McKay Team with Don Johnston, Richard Davis and Ferd Caron. Follow their progress at NACA website.

Mixed Doubles Provincial Championships  in Camrose Feb. 23-25, 2018 – Braden Pelech/Megan Berg, Jacob Rahn/Jessica Wytrychowski (Airdrie), Julia Bakos/Nathan Molberg.

Congratulations to our wheelchair curlers who finished with a Silver Medal at the Alberta Wheelchair Curling Championships in Calgary Feb. 9-11, 2018

Edmonton Rocks wheelchair curlers Shawna Walsh, Warren Fleury, Mike McMullen, and Don Kuchelyma all curl in our Friday Stick Curling League.  They are coached this year by Rick Jenkyns and despite everyone curling their personal bests, and a late game rally, stealing 2 in 7 and another 2 in 8, they fell to defending Alberta Champions, Team Jack Smart of the Calgary Curling Club.   The Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championships will be held in Leduc, March 26-31, 2018.
The Team says:  “Thank you to Nicole and the St. Albert Curling Club and icemaker, Audra for practice ice.”   And, they have extended an invitation to “Anyone in a wheel chair and wanting to try wheelchair curling, please visit the Edmonton Rocks website to find details on where and when to come. The more the better! You are only limited by your expectations!!!  Anything is possible!!!”

2 Teams will represent St. Albert Curling Club at the Provincial Men’s Masters championships!

Congratulations to the Gary Greening rink who won the A Event Qualifier in the Men’s Masters at the St. Albert Curling Club!

Greening, with Dale Briske, Rick Dallyn, Doug DeBruijn and Grant Cook (5th) edged out Orv MacDonald of Cold Lake with 1 in the 8th to finish 6-5.

Keith Morgan rink from Avonair Curling Club wins the B Event Qualifier 5-3 over Neil McKay.

Congratulations to Skip Neil McKay, Third-Don Johnston, Second-Richard Davis and Lead-Ferd Caron – the foursome were victorious Sunday afternoon, defeating Dave Olsen in the C Qualifier.

Greening, Morgan and McKay will represent NACA at the Master’s Provincial Championships in Stettler, AB  Feb 21 -25, 2018.  Good curling, gentlemen!

Good Curling! to the Jennifer Scott team who sealed their spot in Provincials with a win over Deb Santos in the A Event Final on Friday. Congratulations to Lana Knoll of St. Albert, curling with the Laurie Knoll rink out of Jasper Place who defeated both Deb Santos and Kathy Piper on her way to the C Event final win on Sunday. Senior Provincials will be held in Coaldale Feb 14-18, 2018.

2 young teams from St. Albert Curling Club have qualified for Provincial Championships! Both teams compete on the Alberta Junior Tour, and all team members are also part of the St. Albert Junior Elite Development program (STAJED for Success) in its inaugural season at the St. Albert Curling Club.
Junior Women – Team Hagglund won a spot as the NACA ‘C’ representative. They will compete for a provincial title in Lethbridge over the holidays – Dec 27-31, 2017, with new Coach, Nicole Bellamy.
The Hagglund team is also headed to Sweden with a junior men’s team from Calgary in April as the first Canadian representatives for the “Over the Pond Junior Curling Exchange” as they were the top female team in the 2017 Marc Kennedy Junior Classic Bonspiel last March.

U18 Men – Team Molberg won a direct bye to Provincials in Okotoks March 1-4, 2018 – by winning the Crestwood U18 Bonspiel held Dec 8-10, 2017. This team also won the A Event in our 3 Sons Tire & Auto Men’s Bonspiel last month. Skip: Nathan Molberg Third: Jacob Rahn Second: Braden Pelech Lead: Morgan Bilassy Coach: Nicole Bellamy.

CONGRATULATIONS! to STAJED Head Coach – Laura Crocker and STAJED Assistant Coach – Holly Jamieson and STAJED curler, and reigning Canadian Junior Women’s Champion, Brenna Bilassy who will each compete in the 2018 Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Medicine Hat in January. Laura is third for Kelsey Rocque, Holly plays third for Jessie Hunkin and Brenna plays for Delia Dejong representing the Peace Curling Association.

The Winter Games Mixed Doubles Qualifier (U15) was held at Sherwood Park Curling Club Nov 3-5.
SACC was represented by 2 teams out of the 19 teams who competed for 8 spots from the Northern Zones. We are proud to announce that BOTH teams have booked there ticket to the 2018 Alberta Winter Games Feb 16-19 – Wood Buffalo in Ft McMurray!!

White Ice!

Houses are in, and the ice has seen its first curlers with our STAJED kids into their second week of training.

Practice ice will be available each weekday afternoon from 1-3pm until Monday, Oct. 2nd.  First come – First serve!

Congratulations! to all the proximity prize winners and to Team “Tigers” Dan, Brad, Brandon and Craig coming in with low net of -13 and winning this year’s tournament!   A good time was had by all!  Thanks! to the organizing committee, our generous sponsors:  A1 Heating, Wild Rose Brewery, Highwood Distillers, KRS Consulting, Grandin Agencies, everyone who donated prizes and all the volunteers for hosting another successful event!  Our Tailgate party park & ride was a welcome addition this year.  Thanks to Chef Stacy for the great burgers!

Congratulations! to our good friend, Jeff Hansen on being inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame!

“He’s been the voice of sports in St. Albert for 25 years. Now, he’s been immortalized as a member of Alberta’s sports hall of fame.  The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum announced Monday that Gazette sports reporter Jeff Hansen had received the 2017 Bell Memorial Award.

The award recognizes members of the media who have made significant contributions to amateur sports in Alberta, and comes with a ring and a spot in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

2017 Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts

WOW!  Thank you   Thank you  Thank you!  to all the wonderful, hard working volunteers who made this event such a huge success for our club!  Special Thank you! our Host Chair, Jackie Rae Greening, and her committee of Nicole Bellamy, Karen Stephen, Gil Jouan and Dave Klatchuk for showcasing our club to the community and to the whole nation!

Thank you to the City of St. Albert for their support and to the Province of Alberta and, to all the sponsors who made the event possible.

Thank you to the curlers for the wonderful show!  You treated your fans to great shot making through the whole tournament,  along with a few shared laughs and maybe a couple tears.  You truly are the elite women of Alberta Curling and we are so proud of you all!

Finally, thank you to the curling fans who came to cheer on their favorite curling teams and enjoy some friendly, St. Albert Curling Club hospitality.  You made all the hard work worthwhile!
